The Aravalli region of southern Rajasthan is characterized by rugged and rocky terrain where rainwater runoff is high and groundwater recharge is extremely limited. Farmers face recurring water shortages, low agricultural productivity, and declining soil fertility. Small and fragmented landholdings further affect rural incomes and increase economic vulnerability.These challenges have contributed to large-scale migration, reducing access to government welfare schemes and disrupting children's education.Since 1993, Apna Sansthan has been implementing watershed development initiatives across villages in Udaipur district. Supported by national and international partners, the programme focuses on water conservation, soil restoration, sustainable agriculture, and livelihood enhancement.By integrating traditional knowledge with scientific methods such as bunding, gully plugging, check dams, and water harvesting structures, the initiative promotes ecological restoration and community resilience.
