Climate-Resilient Farming, Building a Brighter Future.

Moti Lal Meena

Marginal Farmer • Jaisamand Catchment Area

Moti Lal Meena is a marginal farmer living in the Jaisamand catchment area Bhinder Panchayt Samiti Dhawdiya Panchayat. Earlier, he relied on daily wage labour to support his family, which includes his wife, two daughters, and a son. While the children attend school, his wife manages household responsibilities and takes care of their goats.

After participating in agricultural training programmes, Moti Lal decided to adopt mixed farming on his half-bigha land. He used organic manure to improve soil fertility and cultivated maize and urad together using sustainable farming practices.

Previously, harvesting even 50 kilograms of maize from his field was a challenge. By adopting mixed cropping techniques, he successfully produced 110 kilograms of maize and 150 kilograms of urad. The total cultivation cost was only ₹1,300, while the income generated reached ₹11,800.

Encouraged by this achievement, Moti Lal expanded his farming activities to include wheat and mustard cultivation during the Rabi season. This transition gradually reduced his dependence on wage labour and strengthened his family's economic security.

Today, his success serves as an inspiration to neighbouring farmers, encouraging them to adopt climate-resilient and sustainable agricultural practices for a better future.
